JOE MORELLE SECURES MAJOR ENDORSEMENT FROM

NEW YORK STATE AFL-CIO

May 7, 2018 | Press Release

Rochester, NY – Today, the New York State American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) announced their early endorsement of Joe Morelle’s candidacy for the 25th Congressional District. The New York State AFL-CIO is a federation of 3,000 affiliated public sector, private sector, and building trades unions throughout the state representing 2.5 million members, retirees and their families.

“Joe Morelle is a natural successor to the late Congresswoman Louise Slaughter who served New Yorkers with such distinction,” said Mario Cilento, President, New York State AFL-CIO. “Throughout his years of service as a state Assemblymember, Joe fought hard to create solid middle-class jobs. He went above and beyond to ensure Buy American became law to give a much-needed shot in the arm to the manufacturing industry here in New York State and will continue to fight for good jobs as a member of Congress.”

“The men and women of AFL-CIO know that it is time to reclaim our future and recapture the promise of an America that works for all people. Unfortunately, Donald Trump has betrayed that promise and rigged the system in favor of the wealthiest few at the expense of the many,” said Morelle. “In Congress I will stand up, fight back, and work every single day to support our hardworking families, create strong jobs with good wages, and ensure access to healthcare for every person.”

Morelle, who currently serves as a state Assemblymember representing the towns of Brighton, Irondequoit and parts of the city of Rochester, has spent a lifetime in public service working to advance the best interests of his community. In the Assembly, Morelle has successfully fought for the passage of legislation to raise the minimum wage in New York State, establish paid family leave to ease the burden on our working families, improve access to healthcare for all people, bring millions of dollars in infrastructure improvements to our area, and increase workforce development training to ensure individuals have the skills and training they need to be successful.

To date, Morelle has received over a dozen endorsements from local, statewide, and national labor unions.
